RADICAL READING: CONTEXT MATTERS IN STRUCTURED LITERACY
July 24, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Reading is an educational justice issue. Limited reading skills impact community safety, the economy, employment opportunities, health, gender disparities, and democracy. While structured literacy competencies are designed to ensure all children receive the appropriate support to effectively access reading instruction, we must carefully provide this instruction in alignment with culturally relevant and sustaining educational (CR-SE) practices. In this session, we will explore how to connect Structured Literacy and CR-SE in ways that both promote educational justice and support effective teaching of reading literacy skills.
