CREATING SAFE SPACES FOR MAKING CONNECTIONS AND HAVING UNCOMFORTABLE CONVERSATIONS

May 8 @ 4:30 pm - May 15 @ 6:00 pm

Presented by: Kimberly Ardley

Professional Development Leader

Earn Act 48 Hours

Students need to read, think, converse, and write about difficult and uncomfortable topics. This especially important for minorities, members of the LGBTQIA community, and other marginalized groups. This workshop will provide you with tools to have uncomfortable conversations with students and staff. You will develop tools/skills to provide safe spaces where you provide a break from judgment, unsolicited opinions, and having to explain yourself and allow people to feel supported and respected. The benefit of a safe space is to provide a calm, quiet environment for students/staff facing issues to evaluate their thoughts, feelings, and regain concentration to learn the content. This workshop will offer you a useful     starting point to change mindsets and outcomes that lead to student success.
